The Role

The Group Chief Legal Officer will spearhead the legal function of the group and advice the Group CEO and his direct reports on all legal activities across all strategic business units and provide specialist and expert legal and commercial advice. He or She will ensure that all the business units and operations across the Middle East, the Far East including the operational headquarters in Malaysia, Europe and the USA within the organization are operating in full compliance and within the purview of applicable laws, guidelines and regulations. Negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, structuring real estate transactions, master development agreements, joint development agreement, lease agreements, joint venture agreements, managing litigation and arbitration, and regulatory advice to the leadership team.


The successful candidate would ideally need to have working and living experience in the Asia Pacific region and specifically the ASEAN region.


  • Developing legal strategies for complex corporate, commercial and investment ventures.
  • Advice the leadership team and the promotors on strategic planning purposes, participate in the strategic planning process, play an active role in strategic decision making.
  • Provide critical analysis to the decision making process. Strong leadership as a member of the advisory team, particularly with regard to the provision of practical, relevant, accurate, timely and proactive legal and compliance counsel and guidance that ensures maximum protection of the company’s legal rights and maintenance of its operations within the prescribed legal confines.
  • Negotiating, drafting and implementing a wide variety of complex, multi-party agreements, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures.
  • Drafting, Negotiating and structuring legal documentation and agreements,
  • Training and managing a multicultural legal team managing the legal affairs of the organization in various jurisdictions.



Candidate Profile

At least 20+ years of legal experience gained preferably through a combination of being associated with the top law firms and in-house experience with diversified groups. Candidates who are currently associated with renowned and global Private Equity firms would be ideal. Experience specifically on Global deals in the Utilities and Infrastructure space along with Manufacturing and Industries space and specifically the automotive space would be a definite plus.
