Job Description

Perform systemic initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s physical and psychological status, specific to the stage of pregnancy of the patient (partogram); send used instruments for sterilization and collect it from CSSD; collaborate with the patient/family and other members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care based on the patient's changing physical, psychosocial and the stage of pregnancy of the patient; established realistic and measurable goals that are culturally sensitive and identify nursing interventions to achieve goals;  plan and organize patient care activities with regards to her antenatal/postnatal care; diagnose, monitor and examine women pregnancy;  develop, assess and evaluate individual programs of care; provide full antenatal care, including screening tests in the hospital, community and the home; identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to doctors band other medical Specialists;arrange and provide parenting and health education for the woman, her partner and family members; encourage participation of family members in the birth to support the mother and enhance both mothers-baby bonding and family relateships; provide counseling and advice following events such as miscarriage, terminating, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death.Supervisee and assist mothers in labor, monitoring the condition of the fetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management; give support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breast feeding, bathing and making up feeds; provide advice and guidance to staff and timely transfer home; liaise with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care; engage in professional development to meet PREP (post-registration education and Practice) requirements; participate in the training and supervision of junior colleagues;  perform any other responsibility given by Chief Nursing Officer/Head Nurse/Charge Nurse.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate must have a Baccalaureate/ Diploma in Midwifery. 8 – 10 years of work experience post qualification.
